This was by far the most disappointing game they have put out. I've played all the Sim games that have been made.
This is an absolutely revolutionary game. Some buildings produce these, and some buildings require these, so there is essentially a second currency of building, which may give you that extra challenge, or just annoy you. You still build and run a city, but it's very new. This game only has small ties to its predecessors. Every sim makes a difference.
I don't care if you have a quad core processor, 6GB of ram, and a GeForce 9800 GTX; this game will lag. Altogether, the gameplay is fabulous. Yes, if you meet the minimum system requirements, your game will run. The lag is very tolerable though, your fps goes down a little bit for periods of time. But this game, more than any other I've ever played, is a memory hog. If you've become completely in tune with all the aspects of the Simcity series (like me), then prepare to be flipped upside down.
The only reason I give it a four out of five is because of the severe amount of power this game takes to play. Also, be sure to download any updates on the game, because it will probably fix the long game startup time. You work on a much smaller scale landwise, but it's much more involved. In this game, you have to work with six genres of building aside from actual money- productivity, creativity, authority, prosperity, knowledge, and spirituality.
I went back to the store where I purchased it and got a different copy and it still didn't work on those three computers. This product has a lot of bugs. It didn't work on my brand new computer or my two friend's brand new computers.
There are other problems as well: building on anything but a perfectly flat surface is difficult-to-impossible, which makes design far less enjoyable. The placement of things and roads is often just more awkward than fun since you only have so much control. Being completely new to the Sim thing, I liked how easy this game was to learn and how simple the strategy was. There are also just not enough building types (or diverse enough building styles). Overall: the game is really simple but possibly in all of the wrong places (assuming you can get it to work for a solid hour). However, it crashes a lot (sometimes up to every 3-5 minutes). The crashing has rendered the whole thing unplayable for me.
I haven't even completed a decent sized city yet. It freezes my computer after I play for about 20 minutes and I have a lot of available memory. Maybe it is just my computer, but it is a certainly a disappointment for me. You need way more memory available than they say. It takes however much just to load it on, but then it autosaves every few minutes an entire additional file.
